1. God is with me, I will not fear – Isaiah 41:10
The Bible teaches us that God is with us every step of the way. Whether we ascend into heaven or make our bed in the depths, God is with us. There is no where we can go that He cannot.
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. Psalm 139:8
Even if anxiety seems to take you through the valley of the shadow of death, believe that God is with you (Psalm 23:4). Even as you walk through the fire of fear, God will not allow it consume you because He is the Father who is near (Isaiah 43:2).
2. I do not need to know the next steps because God does – Jeremiah 29:11
I often struggle with not knowing the next steps. I like to have and know the plan. However, God is the only One who is Omniscient – He knows everything and we do not. But comfort comes from knowing that the One who knows everything is also the One who loves me and you. Anxiety may arise because we do not know what will happen next. Whilst we may not know all the details of God’s plans for us, we can be at peace knowing that they are not plans of evil, but plans to give us a future.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
3. God is ahead of me – Deuteronomy 31:8
God goes ahead of us. You can think of it like this, God is ahead of us making our paths straight and smooth (Proverbs 3:6). Since God is ahead of us, we can rest assured that the future is bright and God has already worked things out in our favour so that no matter what, everything will work out for our good (Romans 8:28).
4. I will focus on God and He will give me peace – Isaiah 26:3
Do you ever notice how the more you think about the thing you are worried about, the worse your worries get? Unfortunately, anxiety can be a vicious cycle where worries grow and roll on the more we think about them – and then we can worry about worrying! It’s a tiring process.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
However, when we shift our minds to God, we are guaranteed to receive peace. The Bible says that He will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. There is no probability there, it is a certainty. As our mind stays focused on how good God is, how kind God is, how faithful God is, He will keep us in perfect peace. Anxiety will leave as the peace of God fills your mind.
5. I release this anxiety and I receive God’s rest – Matthew 11:28
The Bible offers a certain exchange when we come to Him with our heaviness – if we go to Jesus, He will give us rest.
When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. Psalm 94:19
Friend, when you feel heavy by the worries of life, burdened by thinking about how things will work out, laden with anxieties swirling in your mind, take those thoughts to Jesus. Tell Him what is worrying you, and ask Him to give you rest. He will calm your heart and give you joy.
With love,
Faith
